Here are two of our quick and easy recipes using canned baked beans. They have so many great varieties available now. I recently bought a can of Bush's Baked Beans that tasted just like the kind we make at home from scratch (with dried beans). I was truly surprised!
Whether you use canned beans or prefer to soak a pound of dried beans overnight, rinse, and cook for several hours, choose one of these methods to add some great flavor to them.
Recipe # 1
Start with an inexpensive plain can of baked beans and pour into a medium sized pot. Add 1 or 2 slices of bacon, cut into small pieces, and about 1-2 T. of brown sugar or molasses. Cover and cook over med-low heat for about 30 minutes until the flavors have blended together.
Oven: You can also bake in the oven at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes, instead of cooking on the stove top.
Recipe # 2
Instead of adding bacon and brown sugar, sometimes we like to use French's Fried Onions. Yes, the same ones we use for green bean casseroles during the holidays. They add a nice crunch and great flavor.
Place the canned baked beans in a 1 qt. baking dish and stir in 1/4 of a small can of fried onions. Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes, then top with the rest of the fried onions and bake for another 5 minutes or until they are slightly browned.
Both recipes are delicious. Enjoy!
