Budget Friendly Office Parties

Money Saving Tip of the Month (featured column)
submitted by Susan Helber

Whenever someone leaves at work, or has a special occasion to celebrate, we have a party. These used to be big expensive deals. Not any more, as the economy doesn't allow it.

We buy a bright plastic tablecloth at the dollar store to harmonize with one of the pretty flowered boxed cards from a museum shop that I keep at my desk. Everyone signs the card and maybe puts a few dollars in it depending upon the situation.

I generally pick a huge bouquet of fresh flowers from my garden and bring them in a clear vase left over from years past. Someone brings a few liters of cokes on sale. Someone bakes a chocolate cake from a mix.

Everyone brings potluck or various supplies for deli sandwiches and chips, homemade dips. One year we had a hot dog party. That was probably one of the best. Sometimes the boss buys "wings."

A good time is had by ALL and it sure beats spending a few hundred dollars!
