When my son was three (and now four), we make this pumpkins to decorate the house. He likes that he can do most of the craft by himself.
We take an orange sheet of construction paper and draw lines so we have strips of paper 1" in width. My son then cuts them out. We gather them at the bottom, and he staples them together.
We then gather them at the top and punch two holes through them to stick 1/2 of a pipe cleaner through and twist it together underneath. If we missed a strip, we staple it in. Now we have a pumpkin for a decoration.
Each year, he has been able to do more of the project, and next year I am thinking of having my son write something about fall on some of the strips.
