"A Box of Wishes"
As we embark in the new year, many of us set resolutions for ourselves. While resolutions are made up of commitment and dedication, it doesn't hurt to add a little magic to the mix. Specifically, the magic of Christmas.
What this ornament does is take your 2015 wishes and represents them in a magical little box. Here in New Mexico, this box represents a mini altar with the traditional "tin art" surrounding it. However, you can customize your box to your own culture or traditions.
Start by taking a matchbox, cutting the front down the middle to create doors. Cover the entire box with the tape of your choice. Take little trinkets or charms that represent your wishes and decorate the inside of your box using craft glue or a hot glue gun. If you don't have any such small things at home, then shop for embellishments in the scrapbook section at a craft store.
I made the little book inside the box by folding paper over and gluing together. You can also write down your wishes in the little book, which is a fun idea. Some ideas you can put in your box include: broken jewelry, a small rock, a button from your family member's shirt, a scroll (rolled up piece of paper), stickers and dried flowers. Tape a looped ribbon on the back to hang on the tree.
Make the box yours. When you see it hanging in the tree, it will serve as a reminder to work on your goals. After Christmas is over, you can place your box in a place you will see it all year so you can remember to work on your resolutions!
