"Grandma's Special Book Tree Ornament"
These little tree ornaments are special to me for a few reasons. I inherited a few books that were damaged in shipment to me. The real value was emotionally significant (Grandma's old favorite books). Rather than toss the books, I salvaged the pages to make these tree ornaments, with plenty to share with the whole family! (They fit easily into a envelope with no additional cost to ship because they are so light!) Another reason these ornaments are special to me, is that my sons helped me make them.
Supplies:
Paper (such as old books, magazines, printer paper)
Scissors
Glitter glue (optional)
Thread
Sequins or small buttons for tree top
Glue stick
School glue.
Note: Any color thread will work. I used clear thread on my trees in the photos, so they look like they are floating in mid-air when they are hanging!
Directions:
Instructions:
Trace a jar top, saucer or something circular on any paper (lighter paper works MUCH better than card stock). Fold in half, then cut so you can use one half circle. Make the lines near where my dotted pattern lines are. Play around with folding it (back and forth) and you'll have a tree that is folded unique to you in no time! (You can see my sample in the picture below).
Use the glue stick to hold the folds down. Cut a little piece and add on the back as a trunk with school glue. Put thread through a sequin for the hanger. Glue to the sequin to the top with school glue. Add some glitter along the edges with glitter glue (optional). Once it is completely dry, hang it on your tree and enjoy!
These little trees make wonderful Christmas Card stuffers! Tuck one into an envelope to send someone a little extra sparkle! The overall cost to make these is very little. I had all of these supplies already on hand. It doesn't take much to get these little cuties started. They were fun to make plenty of, with my little helpers assisting me on a cold winter afternoon.
