I needed a quilting template for fabric strips, they are about 3 feet long with directions on them. I went to a craft store with a 40% off coupon and found the templates were around $12.00 each. Way too expensive.

So then I went to a home building supply store and in the window section they have Plexiglas. I was talking to the man there and told him what I needed. I ended up buying a good size piece of Plexiglas and he cut it into strips for me.
I now have 3 ft. sections in 3-inch, 4-inch, 5-inch, 6-inch and 8-inch, with a good piece to spare all for under $10.00. Wow, and with the piece I brought home my hubby made me some 5-inch, 6-inch and 8-inch, squares and I used a sharpie pen on them for my own directions. Worked great, not as thick but more in my price range.
I also made a sheath out of scraps fabric to store the 3 ft. long templates and put a loop on the back, I hang them on the back of the door... no muss no fuss and a HUGE savings.
By the way, the man was so impressed with the idea he was taking a set home for his wife.
