I have a wonderful tip, thanks to the great people I work with!

I was asked to order a whiteboard for our office. We needed three boards about 8 feet long (each) for work order tracking.
I started with our office supply catalog. They only provided 6 foot boards, and they were between $490-$690 EACH. Luckily, a technician was walking by and told me all about the "thrifty-white" sheets that Home Depot carries.
They are usable as whiteboards, and you can buy them in sheets of 4' x 8'. Total price for each sheet? $10.98. That is a savings of $479-$679!
You can also purchase trim in eight foot lengths for $2.50-$6, depending on if you want plastic or a nice wood trim to make it office-nice.
Since this is so inexpensive, you could always purchase a sheet and request they cut it down to size for you. Our Home Depot cuts plywood sheets, thrifty-white, lumber, etc., for free. At that point, you can make yourself a board, and make boards for gifts.
Simply purchase inexpensive frames, and remove the glass (good for garage sale frames with broken or missing glass) and insert the board. Or you can decorate it on your own with supplies on hand. Just purchase a dry erase marker (some have erasers on the markers now) and bundle it up for a cute, handy little present that is frugal as well!
