"Macramé Wreath"
This delightful little wreath to hang on the Christmas tree was so easy and inexpensive to make.
It is tied entirely of half knots, which if you do a half knot over and over automatically makes it spiral.
I used very inexpensive clothesline cord that I bought at the grocery store and a piece of plastic holiday greenery I had laying around from another project.
You need to cut one piece of cord about 90 inches long and another about 40 inches long. Fold each piece of cord in half and tie a loop knot in the two cords together at the midway point. Arrange on your work surface with the short pieces of cord in the middle (your base cord) and the long pieces on the outside (the tie cords). I usually pin the loop to a pillow with a safety pin to hold the pieces in place while I tie the knots.
(Editor's Note: This is also a fun way to make friendship bracelets. To make a half knot, you will have a center base cord and two side cords. Hold your center base cord taughtly, take the right side cord and place it over the center cord, then under the left side cord. Now, take the left side cord and place it under the center cord, and over the right side cord. Pull tightly. Repeat and continue for the length desired.)
Once you have completed the knotting, bend into a circle and fasten the two cords through the loop on the beginning end and secure. I actually used needle and thread and took a couple of stitches to make sure the ends stayed together.
I then glued the greenery where the wreath joins to cover the joining and you are basically finished. You could use a needle and run a piece of string through the top to make a hanging loop, but I just hooked the end of a regular ornament hook through the top back of the wreath to hang it.
