Recycled Wine Glasses - Valentine's Day Homemade Candle Holder Globes

Frugal Crafts and Homemade Gifts (featured column)

Recycled wine glasses 1

This is a frugal Valentine’s Day decoration or gift that was made mostly out of items I had sitting around my house. I had two wine glasses that didn’t belong in a set anymore and I didn’t want to throw them away, so I made Candle Holder Globes. They turned out beautiful.

I purchased the miniature snow globe and candle from the Dollar Store. If you really want to be frugal you could use old Valentine’s Day Cards and cut them out to stand up in the globe. All the rest of the items (pipe cleaners, cardboard, snow and glue) I had sitting around my house. Otherwise, they can be purchased from the Dollar Store. This item cost approximately $2.50 each and took approximately an hour to make both items.

Materials for Set:

Two wine glasses
14-15 red glitter pipe cleaners
2-miniature valentine’s ornament

Optional:

Small heart confetti (I had an old heart garland I purchased from a rummage sale for a dime)
Cardboard
Artificial snow or Kosher Salt
Glue (I used hot glue)
2 candles that will fit on the bottom of the wine glass

First, I outlined the outside of the wine glass on a piece of cardboard for a circle to make the bottom of the globe.

Next I hot glued an ornament on the cardboard. I mixed about 10 confetti hearts in with the snow. Then I poured snow and hearts in the wine glass. I filled approximately a third of the glass with snow. (Make sure you put enough in the glass to cover the bottom piece of cardboard.)

I then put hot glue all over the cardboard, and glued the cardboard to the rim of the glass. I flipped over the glass so that to make sure all the snow covered the entire bottom.

The next step was to glue three twisted together pipe cleaners to the outer edge of the glass to cover the edge of the rim and cardboard. I also glued three twisted together pipe cleaners to the edge of the top of the candle holder and one half pipe cleaner to the stem of the wine glass for added decoration.

Then, I added the candles!
