Homemade Christmas Ornaments: Photo Plastic Lids

Submitted by Kim Caple of Massachusetts

Illuminated memory photo ornament 1

"Illuminated Memory Ornament"

This ornament has so many fantastic features I just can't decide where to begin. The materials are recycled, your precious family photos are put to great use, it illuminates beautifully when placed on the tree, and each family member can create their own ornament based on their favorite family moments of the past year.

The construction of the ornament begins with any clear plastic container lid. These are often found in the produce section of your local grocery store. A canned potato chip lid would work fine too.

Determine how large your photo should be, select from your collection, and print on plain white paper. You could also photocopy a photo if you don't have a printer or want to change the size of your image. Glue the image to the plastic using Mod Podge over the photo as well to act as a sealant.

Add decorative touches around the edge to compliment your photograph or decorating theme. My example includes a photo of my daughter at the beach last summer, so I added shells with a glue gun in the indented rim, and sand on the back. The possibilities are endless!

Lastly, poke holes in the plastic to add a hanger. Recycle, pull out those photos, involve your family, and HAVE FUN!
