January is a plentiful produce season here in the south, though supplies may vary depending on your location. Citrus fruits, cabbages, greens, and root vegetables such as sweet potatoes are definite favorites in our house! By shopping for produce in season, frugal shoppers can enjoy the optimal flavor and nutrients found in seasonal fruits and vegetables as well as saving money on groceries every month of the year.

Grocery Shopping Tip: A great way to tell which produce foods are in season now is to visit the produce section of your grocery store. Look for two things. #1 What's on sale, and #2 Very fresh looking fruits and vegetables that are piled up high (because of abundant availability). This often means the produce is also IN SEASON.
