Homemade Christmas Ornaments: Rustic Wood

Submitted by Lisa Sett of California

Rustic wood ornaments 1

"Rustic Christmas"

Here are the ornaments we made this Christmas. The ornaments were easy to make and frugal. We had access to a birch tree that needed to be removed. We used most of the wood for firewood, but the branches that were 3 to 4" in diameter we used for crafts. If you do not have any branches to trim, most craft stores carry 3" circles. We cut the 3" diameter branches to 1/4" thickness. We drilled a small hole on top for a hook. You could also add ribbon or raffia.

I tried my hand at using a wood burning tool. It was not working well for me. So instead of giving up on my idea, I used a fine point brown sharpie pen on the rest. We thought that worked great!

I also wrote "To:" and "From:" on the back side of ornaments so they could be used as gifts and package tags. The picture below also shows the tags we made from bark.
