"Accenting the Ancient"
Our our recent anniversary trip to Scotland, we tramped around the ancient lands of the Campbell Clan, our family ancestors. They conquered, built, or were given castle after castle. It was fun to explore and dream what they must have been like. But one place stood out to me and touched me deeply. Upon one of the castle grounds at Dunstaffnage, we found a church built for the family. In it contained grave markers with the Campbell name, a place for the family to worship, and even an altar for anyone in the town to come for services.
As we walked through the chapel, I spotted this potential photograph. The ancient stone walls still stood, built before 1240 AD. But peeking through was the fresh newness of Fall. Each year, leaves change in the Fall to prepare for Spring. The whispered reminder to me was of a God who never changes and yet provides new mercies.
